Save Powder Point Bridge
from Demolition
Our charming bridge is at risk of being replaced by MassDOT with a sterile span of steel, concrete, and asphalt that belongs in a city, not at our shore. We feel there is a better path forward for the town through rehabilitation that gives precedence to saving our most important community asset. It is our responsibility to act as good stewards, like those before us, and protect this precious jewel for the enjoyment of future generations.
Our mission is to save the Powder Point Bridge from demolition by mobilizing robust community support, fostering public awareness, and securing the donations necessary to advocate for rehabilitation solutions with the Town of Duxbury. We are dedicated to preserving the unique character, charm, and historic wooden experience of the bridge, minimizing environmental impacts, and ensuring that our local heritage is protected.
A NATIONALLY CHERISHED LANDMARK SINCE 1892
The Powder Point Bridge is the most recognizable symbol of Duxbury and one of the most iconic wooden bridges in the country. Its weathered planks tell the story of a community tied to the sea. It’s far more than a way across the water, it’s the heartbeat of the town.
CROSSING OVER THE GRAND OLD BRIDGE
Beachgoers look forward to the soulful thump of each plank that carries them to the ocean. The sound is music to our ears, and part of the unique Duxbury heritage we are working to protect.
The bridge is a notable example of simple elegance, offering sweeping views from the top and an equally memorable perspective from below. The timeless timber framework creates a backdrop that boaters treasure, especially under the golden glow of a Duxbury Bay sunset.
